Old Yeller Homework 4
Please answer in each question in a full paragraph and post your answers on your blog site.
1. The most difficult decision Travis has to make during the novel is to kill Old Yeller. His mother offers to do it for him. However, Travis says he will do it. Why does Travis decide to kill the dog himself? How does this show that Travis is becoming an adult?
2. What is the hardest decision you have had to make? How did you handle it? If you had to do it again, would you do it differently?
3. What do you think a young person needs to do in order to prove he or she is an adult? Do you think Travis proved he was an adult? Explain.
4. Describe an older teenager you know. Using the idea of taking responsibility, do you think that he or she acts more like an adult or a child? Explain your answer.
5. One of our rules in class is simply, RESPECT. How do you show respect to your classmates, adults, others? Explain what this looks like.

Travis decided to kill the dog himself because it was his dog and he wanted to do the responsible thing and take care of the dog to the very end. When Travis decided to kill Old Yeller it showed that he was becoming more mature and by killing the dog he understood that alot of the time when you'r older you have to do things that are not always easy to do. The hardest decision I have had to make is if I want to go to my dads on the weekend I enjoy spending time with him but, I like being home with my mom and stepdad I don't think I would do anything diffrent. I think a person need to prove they are adult's by listening to their parents and doing chores and earning the trust of their parents. Travis showed he was an adult by the way he took care of his family and his dog, his mother and father knew that they could trust him to get things done that needed to be done. The person I know that sometimes acts like an adult is my big brother Adrian sometimes he does act like an adult because he does very good in school and is very responsible with his homework, chores and all the sports he plays it's very hard to do all of this when sometimes you just want to be a kid and play video games and hang out with friends. I try to treat everone with respect by helping other's and listening to how they feel and having sympathy for their feeling's. I also try to be a good friend and son and help when help is needed.
